Joe DiNunzio files for re-election to the Davis School Board
DJUSD Trustee Joe DiNunzio has filed to run for re-election to the Davis School Board. DiNunzio was elected as an at-large candidate in November 2018 and has served on the board since December 2018, including 18-months as board president. With the District’s recent shift to by-area elections, DiNunzio is running for the DJUSD Area 3 seat in the November 2022 election.
During his tenure, DiNunzio has been deeply engaged in all of the Board’s work, with a particular focus on providing leadership to the sub-committees on budget, strategy, facilities, and relationships with both the City of Davis and with the Davis Teachers Association.
“I am grateful for having had the opportunity to serve our community for the past four years” DiNunzio said. “I am proud of the progress we have made as a school district during that time, including delivering significant improvements to our school facilities through passage of the Measure M bond program, providing new learning opportunities for our students in our career technical education program, supporting 21st century instruction with universal access to Chromebooks and learning software, strengthening our partnership with the City, and bringing our teachers and staff in line with regional pay scales through passage of the Measure G parcel tax.”
DiNunzio stated that he is seeking a second term to continue to guide the efforts to effectively serve the needs of each of the District’s students and their families, and identified a number of areas of focus: “We need to redouble our efforts to provide programs and supports to help all students achieve the goals of our Graduate Profile, ensure ready access to mental and social well-being resources for students, teachers, and staff; and serve as an innovator in practices and services for our students with special needs.” DiNunzio continued: “We also need to commit the resources and initiatives required to attract, support, and retain world-class educators, and manage our budget thoughtfully, addressing the challenges of declining enrollment.”
DiNunzio added that: “I remain committed to providing strong leadership and informed governance to the District, ensuring that each voice in our community is heard. I look forward to the ongoing dialogue with all of our constituencies.”
Beyond his role as a DJUSD Trustee, DiNunzio has been active in the community, previously serving as Board Chair for the Davis Chamber of Commerce, President of the Davis Schools Foundation, Director of Davis Roots, PTA and Site Council President for Willett Elementary, and as a Davis AYSO coach for more than a decade.
DiNunzio currently works at UC Davis as the Executive Director of the Mike and Renee Child Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and as an adjunct assistant professor at the Graduate School of Management. As President of Fido Management, DiNunzio also provides strategic consulting advice to both large global clients and early-stage companies.
DiNunzio received an undergraduate degree in psychology from Harvard University, and an MBA from Stanford University. He and his wife Dr. Liz Stelow (DVM) have lived in Davis for more than 20 years, and are the parents of 16-year-old twins, along with supporting a menagerie of companion animals.
DiNunzio concluded by stating that: “Our aspiration is for each of our students to embrace a love of learning and find their own unique path to a fulfilling, meaningful, and happy life. As a District, we need to embrace a growth mindset to continuously address the resources, supports, and opportunities needed to help them build the skills, relationships, and confidence to find that path.”
